Rating the Blue Hawaiian

The Blue Hawaiian can be made 2 ways, a slushy form or just a drink.  Rating for Blue Hawaiian will be judged on taste quality, easiness and appearance.

So for starters you will need to make simple syrup, or sweet and sour mix (both the same) to do this you will add 1 cup of sugar mixed with one cup of water bring to a boil let cool and add 1 cup of lemon. This can be stored in a container for months.

Now for the Blue Hawaiian.
·         ¾ oz light rum (any will work as long as it is clear)
·         ¾ oz vodka
·         ½ oz blue curacao
·         3oz pineapple juice
·         1oz sweet and sour mix
·         Combine all together
*if the drink is too strong add in some more pineapple juice
*blend ice cubes with recipe above to make the slushy

so out of 10
personally I like the liquid version a lot better!

taste-7 very refreshing!
easiness-10 (literally too 2 seconds)
appearance- 8 loved the colour I was lazy and didn't garnish.

Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Black Velvet

My favourite type of alcoholic drink has to be beer. The black velvet gives a man two personality. You’ll still be seen as the wild, beer-drinking side but you’ll also be seen as a classy, champagne drinking counterpart. The idea of champagne sounds expensive, but it’s not depending on the environment you’re in. The Black Velvet isn’t a drink you’ll just have when you’re trying to relax at home, but appear at events such as birthdays or other celebratory events.

Ingredients:
¾ pint Guinness
¼ pint Champagne

Grab yourself a tall glass and pour the ¾ of Guinness in it. Then top off the remaining ¼ of the glass with the champagne and prepare to enjoy an amazing drink that involves beer and champagne.

My First and Best Cocktail Ever!

I never had a cocktail before, not to say I never tried alcoholic drinks before. I’ve tried quite a lot, from bloody Mary to gin and tonic and a few beers. My thoughts on alcoholic drinks, I wasn’t impressed but it just kept going downhill from there with the more drinks I tried. I’m guessing I wasn’t used to the biter and sour taste of liquor and I’m the kind of person with a sweet tooth.

It was my first vacation ever and it was to Cuba, I was so excited because I was 19 and at illegal age to enjoy more than just the beautiful beach but the alcoholic drinks that are being served at the bar. First day at Cuba was amazing, if you been there, you know it has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with white sands and clear waters, I’m dying to be there right now. Afterwards, enjoying a morning on the beach, me and my sister decided to get lunch at the bar near the pool.

She convinced me to get an alcoholic drink, her being under age, couldn't enjoy one.  I told the bartender I just wanted something sweet but with liquor inside of it. He just looked at me and said sure, in 30 seconds my drink was made. He used fresh coconut milk and pineapple juice with rum and it was the best drink I ever had in my life, my first ever Pina colda. For the next six days I had Pina coladas like water. Up to this day it is still the best drink I ever had and a wonderful memory from Cuba. Do you remember your first cocktail, care to share your stories?

Captain & Cola

For this blog, the answer to a lot of google searches which is “what is a great mixed drink with cola?”.

Yes there are ways to have a cola-inspired drink and still be viewed as a strong, well-done man. You can still show off your manliness as long as your mixed drink involves something bold, like rum. The Captain and Cola drinker is a man who is always in charge. He’s in control and all eyes are on him at all times when he walks into the room.

Ingredients:
1 ½ oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
            6 oz cola
            1 lime slice

Add both, the Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and the cola to a pint glass and stir it well. Then top the drink with a lime and be ready to enjoy an amazing mixed drink including cola!

Pornstar shot -taking it to the next level

Everyone has heard of the classic porn star shot (see link below) which is basically red sour puss and blue curacao.  This then can be turned into an porn star drink by adding sprite or 7up to the mix; in a bigger cup of course! See link for a video of how to make the Porn star shot:
http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinks1r4813.html

Many people aren’t a big fan of the sourness the porn star shot gives.  Which is why there is new way to drink it that not only tastes better it’s a full porn star drink.  It will have the same great look but with a better taste. follow the link below for a video how to make a porn star drink!

I suggest trying out both recipes you can never go wrong with a classic porn star. Which one will you like better?

All Irish Black and Tan

The Black and Tan has become a very popular drink. It is very easy to make and the ingredients are very easy to get. This drink consists of two beers when put together form two layers.

Ingredients

  • Guinness Draught
Pale ale (ie. Bass, Boulevard, Sierra Nevada)

Directions: Using a chilled bottle, fill a pint glass just over halfway with your choice of Pale ale drink. Place a spoon (concave downward) on top of the glass with the pale ale beer. Open a cold can of Guinness Draught and slowly start pouring the beer onto the spoon while the beer is foaming. When the Guinness rises to the rim of the glass, you’re then ready to enjoy an All Irish Black and Tan.

The Birthday Drink that will you never forget

Have you ever wanted a birthday drink that stood out from all the other birthday drinks? Something with sprinkles and that tasted like  icing?  I came up with a  simple way that looks fantastic!
See picture below.

http://obsessivedaydreamer.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/img_4750.jpg

Now you will need to do a little prep work . Find a bunch of glasses that you will want drink from anything will do. For this drink you will need vanilla icing, sprinkles, cake vodka of course, white chocolate liqueur and amaretto.

Strainer is needed!

Directions

Gather your glasses and if you feel generous glasses for your guests.

  • Fill a sandwich bag with white icing. Make a small cut in the corner of the sandwich bag.
  • Cover the glass rim with icing-best to do this sober ;)
  • Now you can do this step 2 ways. 1) fill a bowl with the sprinkles and dip the glasses in the sprinkles OR 2) Attempt to just sprinkle the sprinkles on the icing. Either way works and don’t worry about sprinkles that fall into the cup.
  • Fill the strainer with some ice
  • Now take 1 ounce amaretto pour into the strainer
  • 1 ounce chocolate liqueur pour into the strainer
  • 2 ounces cake vodka into the strainer
  • This step is optional but totally makes the drink in my opinion take about a spoon full of the icing and put into the strainer
  • Again optional –add one drop of food colouring to make it stand out (bright colour)
  • Shake all ingredients up really well! And pour into your sprinkle glasses

Could this be your birthday drink?

The lights that don't stop

The traffic light is probably one of my favourite drinks in the world. I was in Cuba the end of January, I couldn't find a drink that I wanted to drink for the rest of the time. So I asked to bartender to make me a surprise drink and he came up with the Traffic Light. Now let me tell you this was probably the best thing ever, I drank the traffic light till it wasn't possible to drink anymore.

When I came back to Canada I was determined to recreate the traffic light.  It took a while to make but I think it finally got it! This will take patience and whatever you do DO NOT stir the drink… it turns the brown colour and just to be perfectly honest not very appetizing.

Picture and Recipe directions below:

http://lewisfamilyexploringoz.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/1810-traffic-light-drinks.jpg

Recipe
*you will need a tall skinny glass (works easier)
-This is the most important step you must be careful

  • Mix together blue curacao and vodka.
  •  Fill the cup with any orange coloured juice. (I prefer orange juice)
  • Poor the mix (of vodka and blue curacao) into the cup 1/3 full. It works best if you have a bottle and a long spout. But a turkey baster works fine! MAKE SURE YOU ARE POURING IT INTO THE BOTTOM !
  • Add grenadine to the top and voila your traffic light is complete!

Now it took me about 3 tries to perfect this magic but either way messing up still tastes great.
whats your favourite drink?

The best Cocktail mix to purchase

Making cocktails at home can be so difficult, especially when you want an alcoholic drink quick. Mixed drinks take time and consist of numerous ingredients. It’s easier to just add ice and your favorite liquor. So why not? Thats why there are pre-made cocktail mixes. However, there are so many pre-made cocktail mixes out there, with so many options, how do you make the right choice.

I've narrowed it down to just one so you don’t have to go through the same bad experience I have with pre-made cocktails. I've had some that just taste like fruit juice to ones that taste just like sugar. Furthermore, when picking a pre-made cocktail and martini brand, master of mixes is the way to go. Their mixes taste like you just got it from a bar, made fresh and with directions so you don’t add too much ice or alcohol.  Master of mixes offer martini mixes, cocktails (in lite or regular) and bucket side mixes for parties. If you’re looking for a great pre-made cocktail, masters of mixes is the best path to choose.
